i bought an ASUS P5VD2 - VM SE motherboard a couples of years back too replace one i'd ergh.... burnt out! well this one has an error on the POST which reads 'cpu overvoltage error' which tells me some one went too far with overclocking. as i have no experience or interest with overclocking nor do i have any inclination to do so, can anyone tell if this error can be rectified. I know i have tried to resolve on bios settings but everything is disabled. so if i build a machine with ths motherboard can i do it via a overclocking utililty

    many thanks for any reply

Have you tried to set the BIOS to Default? Or removed the BIOS Battery for a minute or so?

yes i have taken the battery out, and everything in bios is locked so nothing can be changed, my first thought was too set it back to factory default but i cant even do that, what i haven't tried thou is using it with an OS

    Is the BIOS password protected?

It would prompt you for a password when trying to enter it.

Since you reset the BIOS, then it sounds like a motherboard problem.

Is your CPU and RAM listed on your motherboard's Support Lists? Your exact RAM does not have to be listed, but must be the same specifications as listed RAM. However, your specific CPU must be listed. If you are using compatible RAM and CPU, then contact your vendor for a replacement.

it never asked for a password so thats that question answered i had it up and running when i got it off ebay second hand, with the correct CPU, a Pentium D 920 to be precise and 2 gb of pc2-3200 i just never put an OS on its HDD because of the error message, i am trying solve this error if i can, but as it was mentoined in my previous post about sending it back i guess its useless and i'll think about chucking it
thank you very for all your support

if noone else comes up with another solution, i'll mark this as resolved in 24 hours
