One beep as the system completes POST is usual. I take it that all that happens is that the fans run, but nothing shows on the screen and there are no beeps.

Look for any of the drive LEDs flash. If one stays on solid then the BIOS is having trouble communicating with that drive.

Remove any removable hardware (PCI cards) and disconnect all the drives. If you still can't see anything on the screen, look in the manual/User Guide for how to clear the CMOS (disconnect all power).

After that, you could try a different mouse and keyboard, but it would be likely that the motherboard is faulty. If you take the RAM out and it does not beep, it's bin time I'm afraid.

Do some testing. It does not always "fall into place ".

The power supply can fail to provide power to the mother board, yet provide power to the fans. Look for an on board fuse. Also look at the age of the power supply. A new PS is cheaper in some cases than a new mobo. But i dont recommend a cheap PS. I use a 550 Watt. My system would work with a 250 watt. The mobo and peripherals may work with 250 watts but when the system gets older more resistance is generated and more power is required to get to the peripherals. It may just be a tired PS.

If you buy a new mobo and use this same PS the same results may not show up at first and then it will, allowing you to think it was a weak mobo.

Not necessarily. Can you provide any additional information or history. Is this a machine you've had for a while or something that came to you by way of another's discarded equipment. Has the CPU remained the same or has someone tinkered with it or its heatsink? Is the cpu fan connected to the specified 3 pin cpu fan header? What is the CPU? And, that power supply - what is it and has it been tested. Has the video card or memory been changed - do you know the history? Have you had or seen this machine working with its current hardware?

With a little more background information and a little information about specific key components, there may be some help available to you. There are several potential causes for "no Beep" on a perfectly good motherboard. About the only thing that can be determined with certainty at this point in time is that you have a *#>?BLEEPING%&* problem with beeping.

    ;)
