More Problems with XP SP3

Looks like SP3 is causing headaches...

I am not sold on the update yet. Makes one wonder if Microsoft wants to sour XP, and drive people to Vista.

 

It seems like PCPitstop links have more problems than SP3. I haven't been able to get any of their pages to load that deal with SP3.

 

There are some who have no problems.

I Downloaded SP3 (the EXE). I Slipstreamed it to my SP2 slipstreamed disk then I applied SP3 to my working computor and no hitches at all.

I applied SP3 to my cousin's desktop and laptop. No problems.

I applied it to my daughter's laptop and no problems.

All four of these computers have AMD processors.

My cousin's two computers are on a home network.

If SP3 were ****, wouldn't it be **** for everyone?

 

This is good to know Bill, as I have shyed off from SP3, though I do have an AMD chip, so this at least gives me a bit more confidence in going w/ SP3.
The real question, though, is why bother?
What's the benefit?
I'm running SP2 w/ no hitches what-so-ever, so why risk messing up a good thing?

 

Maybe you should just try it. Don't concern yourself so much with what others may or not be experiencing. Do you know the complete 100% background of each and every system you hear problem about? I doubt it.

I've installed SP3 on 27 Dell pc's, running either Celeron cpu's or Intel duo core cpu's. haven't had a single problem, other than with a couple of non-MS applications resetting defaults/ But that's no big deal. The SP works. I also downloaded and used the large 300+ MB file from MS's update site. Then burned it to a cd (I figured it was easier than sharing it out to a network share andd then connecting every pc to that share).

 

But again, what's the actual benefit of using SP3?

 

I have installed on 188 machines at work, an no hicups yet. Windows XP Service Pack 3(SP3) includes all previously released Windows XP updates, including security updates and hotfixes. It also includes select out-of-band releases, and a small number of new enhancements, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system. One notable exception is that, SP3 does include Network Access Protection (NAP) to help organizations that use Windows XP to take advantage of new features in the Windows Server® 2008 operating system. Also, Windows XP SP3 includes improvements to black hole router detection(detecting routers that are silently discarding packets), turning it on by default.

I'll probably break down and try it. I'm just really leary of MS these days. They still think I'm a beta tester, along w/ everyone else who uses their products, even though I dropped out of that program some yrs back.

 

When I installed the SP3, my computer would reboot itself after only a few seconds, over, and over, and over. I had to do a restore to get it to operate normally again.

That forced me to have to re-install many applications. It was a nightmare! I won't make that mistake again.

BTW: I'm using a compaq pc.
