    Hi Aims and welcome.

I split your post into a new thread to prevent confusion with different systems. Please post details on your setup and exactly what you've tried.

Have you tried this? So far, it's worked for me on every computer I've seen with this issue.

    try fix?

    Johanna,
I looked at that fix you referenced, and from what Linksys, and my ISP tech have both told me, the configuration that I'm using will not allow me to use DHCP. It has something to do with the WEP on wireless networks.
Since I'm not experienced at this whole networking thing, I'm not about to reset the works to make the attempt. Not yet anyways. If I need to, I will... just not yet.
As I mentioned with the post above, I seem to have resolved the issue-- except that now it's happening on my wife's laptop. I emailed Newt, quoting a post by a guy named Sven:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=36382&page=2&pp=17,
That one seemed to have worked for now. I'm going to go back and look at her system again tonight, and throughout this week.
My only concern for her is that she is a lobbyist, and accesses various wireless networks through our legislative offices. If I set a single IP address, will it still allow her to work online?
That was my question to Newt this afternoon.
So, for now, I am partly content.
But since you, and others here are IT personnel, it'd really be nice if:
1- you or enough someones could make MS aware of what they've done.
2- MS would solve this faux pas once and for all, without creating another one with the fix.
Hope your Sunday is an enjoyable one.
Thanks for the reply to my initial inquiry. It's deeply appreciated.
    SteveB.
