   i have downloaded and installed explorer 6. it has overwritten my explorer 5.5.
   
   i would like to have both 6.0 and 5.5 on my computer. what should i do? is it possible ( i can do it with netscape, as they are so kind to ask where i would like to have version x.x installed)

   You can't... unless you run miltiple OS'ses on multiple partitions.
