I've spent the weekend setting up my new computer. I have stuff to transfer off the old computer and only have one monitor, so I have been connecting and disconnecting the monitor between the two computers. Tonight I connected it to the old computer and booted up, but the monitor remained blank. Based on the lights on the front of the computer and the sound, it appears the computer itself did boot up. I shut it down manually and hooked the monitor up to the new computer to make sure the monitor was OK and it worked fine.

I did have some apparent graphical problems a few weeks ago (addressed in an earlier thread) and I removed the graphics card which seemed to make it mostly better. I've been able to use the onboard video since then.

About the only idea I can think of now is to put the video card back in to see if that works. I have stuff on this computer I still need to get off and transferred to the new computer. I am open to suggestions.

Why don't you just take out the drive from the old computer, connect it to new computer & copy the data ? Would work out much faster & convenient.

While I have spent plenty of time over the past eight years inside my old computer, for some reason I'm not anxious to crack open the case of the new one to do stuff inside. That's really kind of illogical, I know.

I can see that this may be the route to take here. My plate is kind of full today, so I may not get to this today.

I removed the old hard drive and attempted to put it in the new computer but was unsuccessful, as the interface was different between the two. So, I bought this dock from Best Buy called Rocketfish. I inserted my old hard drive in it and connected it to the new computer through a USB port and was able to access the data.
