    Hi All -

IMHO - this is weird! About 40% of the time my monitor stays ON. Well, to be more correct, about 60% of the time my monitor will shut off in the time that is shown in "Power Opions Properties > Power Schemes > Home Office/Desk > Turn Off Monitor ". After shutting down the monitor several times after I'm finished with the computer it (the monitor) just stays on until I right-click on the desktop and reset it through "Propeties ".

I'm at a loss with this one. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.:)

Hi indutch. Your problem certainly is a weird one. So when you go into power options and set the monitor to turn off after a certain amount of time is doesn't shut off during that time period? Do you have a screensaver running before your monitor is supposed to shut off? Have you installed the latest drivers for your monitor? You might have some programs that are running in the backround that don't let the monitor go to sleep. Try shutting down all backround programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar to rule out that software is conflicting with the computers idle time. The programs I would suspect as being the cause of the problem would be Anti Malware programs. Have you tried using a different monitor? Does it shut off at the desired time? Let me know, thanks. :)

I haven't forgotten you, Evan. I'm just waiting for the problem to happen again. I haven't been using the computer for a couple of days.

When you leave your computer, try leaving the mouse upside down. You may be picking up vibrations from your environment that are turning the monitor on again. This is what I find happens with mine.

I edit and produce a monthly newsletter for my local Elks Lodge. As soon as I get it finished and mailed this month I'm going to FORMAT this darn thing because I'm fed up with all the weird stuff it has been doing for the last several months. Any suggestions or ideas out there in regards to the formatting? I'll take any an all ideas short of explosives. Well, maybe those, too.:)

Follow my notes, Mike :) .....
Depending on the SP included in your XP CD it would be beneficial to create a slipstreamed CD first to save time loading updates and patches for the OS ....

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD
