pardon me,i was just wondering,is there a monitor shutdown after a certain time where u can set just like win98 for XP pro?i can only find the one for the screensaver.
another question, when the screensaver is active after a certain time (any windows),does it goes on "forever" until u moved the mouse or is there a setting for it to stop at a certain time?

    Hi kiasuteo!

You can find what you need in Control Panel > Power Options. You will find options to time out the monitor as well as the hard drive. You can even elect to enter Hibernation mode after a selected time interval of no activity.

Yes, most screensavers will go on forever or until the Power Options setting put them in suspension.

The different Power Schemes that are available on the drop down menu are for the user to select so as to most nearly represent the type of usage normal for them.

You can try selecting different modes and see the changes it makes to the different default settings for the components of the system. Then pick one that seems good for you.

If none seem exactly right for you, you can change any settings you want and tailor them to your particular liking. The defaults are merely suggestions and not to be considered permanent.

As for the "Hibernate" function, you can either have it enabled or disabled depending on whether or not you check the box to do so.

When Hibernate is enabled, it allows you to quickly shut down your computer by pushing the Hibernate button on your keyboard (If so equipped) or else when at the normal close down screen, hold down the Alt key and press the H key. The computer will exit all programs and go into "Hibernation" until you turn it back on manually. When you do turn it back on, it will reload all the programs you had open when you Hibernated and put the screen back in the exact state it was.

Hibernate is different from a simple "Timed Out" state because moving the mouse or hitting a key will not revive it.

There is plenty more about all this at START > HELP and SUPPORT so take advantage of the good Help system that XP offers.

Finally, do not feel badly about being ignorant, we are all ignorant about something.

    Regards
