Hello, I had XP and went back to 2k but for some reason 2k doesn't recognize my monitor. It has the defasult monitor as the monitor of choice and there is no wat I can change that. I tried in the device manager but there is no monitor icon to clik and change. I tried doing it in the display option under the control panel, but the settings only has default manger and the properties button is unhighlighted. I have tried everything to change my monitor but to no avail. My monitor is releatively new.only a year old its a nokia 445pro, which now falls under Viewsonic monitors scope. PLease help..

It sounds like you're running in the Windows default display driver mode.

If you have the driver disk for your monitor boot to Safe Mode and delete all references to the display system; monitor, adapter, all of it.

Then go to the Hardware installer and ask it to install a Display monitor for you. Forget letting it detect your equipment, it already failed at that obviously. Then when asked what type gear you want installed, click on "have Disk' and direct it to your Display drivers.

That should get you back on track.

If you don't have the driver disk, get one from the manufacturers site.

    good luck.

In Device Manager if you choose Show hidden devices on the View menu, under Non-Plug and Play drivers, is a "ENC2 Video Filter" present?

I'm thinking you may be needing some drivers for your MOBO if you have integrated video on that beast.

The fact that nothing is listed in Control Panel is bearing that out.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to snow you with techo jargon. MOBO is the lazy geeks way of saying motherboard, which is the main circuit board holds most of your operating system hardware and firmware (fairly permanent software).

I can't give you specific advice on your particular system but what you can do is get the make and model number of your equipment and visit the web site of that maker and look for the technical support area. If drivers are available, they'll be lurking somewhere in there. If you have troubles finding them contact support via e-mail, if that's an available option, and ask for their ideas.

If you manage to get the software drivers you need, there will be a readme.txt file with it and you can walk through the install per that guidance.

If you don't feel comfortable popping the cover off your box to get the necessary numbers, then you can download and use Belarc Advisor which is freely available on their site. (google Search for it).

If all that fails, you can post your complete specification data back here and it may be possible to walk you through it but I warn you, it can be a complex procedure and the pitfalls are many.

If you have any extra dough, take it to a local tech and you'll get it done without any grief. $50 +-

    Good luck
