I have an OLD NEC MultiSync Monitor on my Wife's machine. I noticed at boot up there is a very noticeable flickering it the upper left corner.

It is not as bad ( or just doesn't seem to be ) after Windows gets loaded but it is there.

Also after Windows is loaded and she starts playing her cards games the Windows are not maintaining their size from game to game. Some look like they are in 800x600 and others look like 1024x768.

I know that this could well be a Driver porblem but I THINK I should think about getting a new Monitor first.

Is it also possible that by having an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 that it is overdriving the ANCIENT Monitor ?

But I am also thinking ( be it right or wrong ) that the flickering at boot up points to the Monitor because Windows drivers are not even the picture yet.

:) Unless there is something new that I am not aware of :)

I must admit that I am a bit hesitant to even try reinstalling the Video Dirvers right now.

I would tend to agree that the problem lies in the monitor - AFAIK the technical term for the control of the image in the corners is 'landing'. My Iiyama 22" 513 Visionmaster Pro has controls for Landing in the on screen controls - I doubt your NEC has these controls.

Can you substitute another monitor to prove the point?

The variable picture size could suggest a problem with the cathode ray guns or possibly with the monitor power supply.

Agree with your initial thoughts re. the video drivers.

I had to go to 4 different stroes before I found a Monitor.

I would up with a Compaq FS7550. BUT WOW WOW WOW !!!
    What a difference.

No squiggle. No Squabble. My Wife says the cards have not been that size for quite some time.

I t tool me a bit of time to figure out how to get the picture center but I got it.

I think I will leave the driver bit as is for awhile.

    Thanks again Pete.

    PS.
The BEST part of the whole deal was the great big hug and the words I like it

    I forgot this part.

My Wife likes the new Speakers that came with the monitor and hang on the side of it. I did not even know they were there till I opened the box.

Well, it was sure nice to boot it up this morning and not have the DOS/BIOS info sitting there waving at me.

Windows 98SE picked it up as a new piece of hardware ( Plug-n-Play ) went and found the Monitor.inf and away we went.

But I did get SCARED when it would not turn on. Ol' BillyBob here did not have the power cord in TIGHT.

But, as I said earlier. I don't think I will even mess with the Video drivers. Nancy says EVERYTHING was MUCH better last night. No Slow screens between games. No screens fading in and out or anything.

And Thanks again for the help.
