The adjustment menu keeps appearing on screen every few minutes. Sometimes it remains on

screen for a very long time and disturbs the settings. The monitor is a HP m705 CRT monitor.

Check the cable connections, maybe disconnect and reconnect them, to make sure they are seated properly.

Go through the settings in the menus, if there are Defaults, reset them.

Do you have the user manual? If not, download it at the HP website
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...21&lc=en&cc=in&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=in&submit=GO

The monitor is a square screen, you might be using a resolution that is hard for it to set, use resolutions in the ratio 4:3, so try 1024 X 768 (also try testing by reducing the refresh rate).

Programs like games will change the resolution, if you are running such a program, go into the graphics settings in that program and set a "more agreeable" resolution.

Try testing it on another computer (but that will not mean that the monitors menu settings will have changed, so you might have to check/reset them).

Could say, some sticky liquid have run down into the control buttons, so that the "show menu" control keeps operating? If you press the Show Menu button on the monitor, does it seem to operate correctly?

I was thinking along those lines - that is dirt or dust, especially if combined with cigarette smoke if you smoke while using your computer, may have caused the button to stick and intermittently make electrical contact. You might try a can of compressed dusting gas, but if smoke or soda or something sticky is involved, you would need electrical contact cleaner which you can get at Radio Shack or the like. However, I would caution that it may be caustic to the surrounding plastic so you may want to test it on the back first. And I would take measures to ensure no spray gets on the screen itself. Maybe, if lucky, if you turn off the monitor and just press the menu button a bunch of times, it might clean itself.

If the return spring in the button itself is bad, you will have to replace the switch.

I don't know of any program though would call up the monitor's on-screen display (OSD) menu. I think the OSD menu on monitors is totally isolated from the data input.
