Normally I chuck monitors that don't work so have never learned anything about repairing them. In this case though I've got a Dell D1028L, 17" and the power led comes on but no other indication of it working. Since I'd rather have this 17" running than the 15" replacing it on that box, wonder if there are some things I can look at before putting out with the trash.

    Hi Marty,

Have you tried it on another computer? It may not be getting a signal from the Graphics card. If it won't start on another computer it has probably had it.

Suggestion?: If you could get a quote for repairs and compare that to the "going rate" on Ebay, you might make a little for yourself or even consider making it a present to a friend or relative that is using a 15 ", I'm sure it would be appreciated. Of course, it depends on the quote for repairs.

Thanks Matt, but I'm interested in either doing the repair myself if possible or chucking it. And the computer that it stopped working with works fine with another monitor, so the fault must be in the monitor, yes?

    marty,

There's enough high voltage in a crt monitor to electrocute you if you don't know what you're doing. Wouldn't suggest you try a repair yourself, from what you say.

Even when it's been unplugged for a month or more?

I don't know, but you need to know what capacitors to discharge and how to do it safely.
