monitor goes blank after windows logo

    My system starts up normally, but then after the windows logo (windows mellinium) comes up, the screen goes blank and the monitor makes a clicking noise. I can view the monitor only in safe mode. Does anyone have any ideas what I should be looking for as a problem?

    Try starting Windows in safe mode, go to the Display Properties in Control Panel. Change the resolution to 640x480, the colors to 16 colors (not 16 bit). Go to System in Control Panel and remove all references to all monitors in Device Manager.

    Restart normally, then try changing the resolution and colors to 800x600/256 colors.
