So last week my boss walks in with a box and presents me with a new monitor at work.

    Samsung 223BW.

I hooked it up and the size (i.e., readability) for me is much better, but everything is stretched wide. It adds at least 30 lbs to the appearance of my wife's photo on Facebook. I absolutely must get this straightened out before she comes in and sees it!

Seriously, it is also skewing the perspective on things like drawings that are done in Publisher and other such things.

With the old monitor the readability was the pits, but things seen on the screen were true to how they would print out.

How do I get this new one set for that?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rick

As a partial answer to my own question, I went into the settings and changed the resolution from 800x600 to 1280x768.

That took care of the stretched wide look, but now the fonts are "scratchy" looking. Also, I looked and a drawing I work with regularly is now accurately appearing on screen as it will look printed out.

I need sharp, clear fonts. What can I do to clear up the splotchy fonts? The old monitor was a 15" flatscreen; the new one is a 22" flatscreen, but as it is, I am still looking at a display that has readability issues.

Myself, I prefer to run LCD's in their native settings. Check your manual for native settings. For most 22" monitors this would be 1680x1050.

    NEXT -
LCD's panels respond very favorable to "ClearType ". If you have XP, this is already on your system. Open "Control Panel" and look for "ClearType" selection ... enable it.

Wow! The 1680x1050 settings sharpened up the fonts!

    Clear type was already enabled.

    Thanks,
    Rick
