A friend brought over his old compaq presario 9546 for me to install a cd-rw in it. After installing it I was going to connect my monitor to it to install the software and noticed my monitor would not plug into the connector. One of the 15 way holes is plugged. Is it safe for me to drill out the plug, or would I be risking his computer and/or my monitor? The plug-ins are otherwise the same. Thanks for any info!!

To unplug or open a pin connection to accommodate an additonal pin on your monitor would at the very least be a non-functioning monitor. A worse scenario could be damage to the unit and/or the monitor.
