modem or telephone starts computer

    I have just bought a new computer with Windows 2000 as the operating system. I connected to the internet via a modem. Now after I shutdown completely, if my telephone rings, the computer will start up automatically. The modem is on. Or if my modem is off and my computer is off completely, when I turn the modem on, the computer starts up by itself again. HELP!!!!

    Welcome to the boards. Sounds like you may have your modem set to wake on lan?
