modem installation

Custom built computer.Mobo GIGABYTE GAtVMM,900 MHZ CPU,128 MB SDRAM,20 Gig HD.Installed new modem MOTOROLA M56 PCI and new driver.WINDOWS and AOL detected my modem.DIAGNOSTICS OK.Received error message : "no dial tone ".Checked and rechecked connections , phones and messages waiting.OK.Then:
1.-phone will work wherever it isconnected on the modem(Line or Phone)
2.-Computer will not shut off when the modem is installed.It will restart by itself.
3.-Error message : "illegal operation.... "In DETAILS it says "WINKFTL caused an invalid page fault in module WINKFTL.EXE at 01.7F=00404dea
4.-When dialing ,the modem will not give the full ringing sound.It seems to me that it is hanging.
Can you help?

 

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the modem?
AOL messes with Dialup Networking. You might also want to uninstall and reinstall that.

 

This is the second new modem I installed.I tried to re-install in different slot,and same thing happens.

 

Reads like it imay be time to try and External.

And do not plug the Phone into the Modem. Plug both directly in the wall plug.
