Just got a new Aopen FM56-px modem. It appears that when I installed it Windows 98SE used a windows driver ..comm.drv instead of the driver for the new modem. When I try to change drivers I get the following message

The following file cxt10b6m.cat can't be found Please place windows modem installation disk.
It doesn't seem to want to use the driver that is on the Aopen CD that I got with the modem. Any ideas on how I can be sure I have the correct driver installed ??
The modem does work but I am not able to use a program called "Faxtalk NetOnLine" which is supposed to be able to detect Caller ID when you get a phone call while surfing the net. This program reports that my modem isn't on-line when infact I am.This leads me to believe that I don't have the correct driver. I have Call Waiting & CallerID from by local Telco and my ISP can handle V92 plus call holding
Any suggestions would be appreciated since I am running out of ideas

    Hi Bob

Comm.drv are the drivers for your Communication Ports (comm 1,2,3 or 4) not your modem.
If you want to remove the drivers and try again, look under Add/Remove programs for a listing, then go to Device Manager (also known as Device Mangler around here :D ), highlight the modem and remove. There may other hardware to remove (like Voice Modem) which may be listed in the user manual. The drivers will be gone when you reboot.
Follow the installation procedure as close as you can (some of them are pretty hopeless).

    Modem info:
    http://www.aopen.com/products/modem/fm56-px.htm
(check the user manual and driver downloads, they may have been updated).

    Thanks for the reply

    Hi Matt:
I have tried unloading the driver twice with the same results. It appears that the drivers are being loaded from the Aopen CD
    into my HD.
I tried the links that you suggested. I was able to get to the first page but when I tried to use a link on that page I got a broken link. The aOpen forum was also a broken link. I'll try them again at a later date because maybe they were just busy.
    Thanks again for your help

    Bob what OS, 98?

Do this remove the Aopen CD from the CD if there!

Shut down and reboot to safe mode.

Go to conrtol panel and remove all modems. Then go to device manager and remove any modems that are left here. Then look for unknown devices ( look for yellow ? ) remove any items here.

Then back up to control panel and go to Add/Remove. Look for any entries for either your old or new modem and remove them.

Then do a disk search for Aopen and the name of your old modem and delete all items it finds.

Then restart. Be ready to provide the disk to install the modem.
