I have been away from Windows 98 for some time now
    Perhaps someone can help me
A laptop is using a built in modem
The dial up seems to have a dial up number stuck into the modem dial-up setup no matter what i do
I have taken deleted the connections
    Rebooted
    set up new connections
    Removed the modem
    Reinstalled
    Used as external modem
It add the previous entry XXX-xxx-yyyy in front of the current dial up number no matter what i do
    Any ideas ?

    thanks

Are you looking at Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections tab? There are several places to make settings.

Look in Add/Remove Programs for, say, a program from a previous ISP (uninstall it). What does that "previous" entry/number relate to? A different ISP or possibly some sort of hijack company (website)?

The phone number is the current phone number of the owner of the laptop
I cannot seem to find where it is entered
Its actually not the primary phone number of the owner of the laptop
Its a 2nd phone number from which he is currently dialing out from

Sounds like the # is 'hard coded' into the modem. You'd probably have to use telnet or the command prompt to change it. Check the modems manual.
