Lightning strike. Appears like it blew modem external. Com2 definitely blown. When I install xternal modem to com1 win98 does not see at boot up. If I manually add modem and run diags. on modem I see it talking to modem but no scripts reflect back and it say modem not responding.

Same com1 port digital camera can download photos from.

Am guessing that the diags and a working modem use different scripts to work with the com port. than does the digital camera.

    Anyone have an idea ?

If the power surge came through the modem to blow the Comm port then it's probably done to a crisp. Can you borrow another modem to try? It looks like new modem time.:(

(I'm assuming it's the old modem, not a new one?)

Tried a brand new xternal right out of the box and i got the same results. windows 98 did not see it and when i tried to manually install it took the install but the diags. would send to the modem but could not receive back to diags sft. to give the output it should.

Not seen this before havent had time yet to try modem on a different machine but am confused as to why it would send the signal and you can see the lights flashing but it couldnt send enough of a signal back to diags sft. to register.

    Again any thoughts ???
