Hi, I need to get a new modem/router as mine is playing up when using Skype phone . I see there are "G" and "N" available , can you advise which is better for voice transmission ( Voip?),
Mine ( "D Link DSL G 604T) was Ok and is still Ok for Skype calls etc , but when I try to use Skype phone it is garbled this end but the others can hear me OK, .
The line is Ok as we have checked that , and D Link has helped me reset the modem, and they suggest replacing it ,
Hence my query on here, which one to get,
    Thanks Cheers Des.

Are you referring to an actual Skype enabled phone, or making phone calls using the Skype software on a computer?

If using Skype on a computer, then try just reinstalling Skype. Sometimes some Skype files can get corrupted and reinstalling will fix things.

Also, the type of wifi won't make any difference in Skype, both 80211g and 80211n work fine.

If you are refering to an actual Skype phone, then the problem is likey due to the setting for maximum concurrent connections allowed, if the phone has such a setting available. Or the Skype phone application may neeed to be reinstalled because of corrupted files.

Hi Tony, Thanks for your reply, I have reinstalled Skype as you suggested a couple of times.
Not a Skype phone , just using Skype phone time using the Pc.
Talking Pc to PC on Skype works fine ,
I will see which unit I can get the best deal on,
Thanks again for your reply .
    Cheers Des.:)

In an application like VoIP, latency & wifi signal collisions could be a major problem since its real time application. Any interference from any source would degrade the wifi signal & you would get garbled voice. I would also shop around for a wifi router which has QoS & set it to give VoIP a higher priority.
