Your HJT log appears to be clean, although this is no guarantee that there is not an infection of some type on your system as some 'hide' from HJT and are not detected.

You should rescan with HJT and fix the lines below which have files missing ....

I have done what you suggested but still have the error message but it has changed to:
    MMC71CHT.EXE
has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
if you were in the middle of something the information you were working on might be lost

Interesting - time for a little detective work :)

I have absolutely no idea if anything will come out of this, but would you restore the entries you fixed in HJT from the backup and then fix one at a time until the message re. MMC71CHT.EXE changes and let me know which entry in the log initiated the change.

There are 4 programs in that list, all with files missing ....

    BitDefender Online Scanner
    MSN Messenger
    iPod
    Windows OneCare Live

It is conceivable that the .exe file is associated with one of those programs.

Perhaps Process Viewer can be a help in this. Unzip to a folder, and double click RunMe. In the dos window that appears, press 1 then Enter and a log will appear in Notepad. Then press 2 then Enter. Post both those logs onto there.
