When users click on an attachment in Netscape Messenger email. Usually a Dialog box pops open with: "Warning: There is a possible security hazard here" With a following checkbox to Open or save the file. Also a check box is present which if unchecked will keep this dialog box from popping up for specified file extension. Users have unchecked this box. So now they do not get a warning when they click on the attachment. I would like to "reactiveate" the popup for previously deselected file types. I have examined liperfs.js and prefs.js under the users profile. But I do not see any key words relating which I can edit to restore the popup capability. I sure would like to be able to reactivate this warning. Anyone here know how this is done?

    Thanks, LeEric

    Welcome to the Forum, leericmarvin!

    Hi LeEric,

    Select:
    Edit|Preferences|Navigator|Applications

Look for the program you are using to view the attachment, from the listing. When found, select "Edit ". Then select the listing for "Ask me before opening download files of this type ". If you don't find the application, you may have to add it to the list. However, before you do this, ensure that the application is not already listed.

Thanks for the reply. Its however moved me along to an additional question.
By the way, I am using Netscape ver 4.79. The file type in question happens to be a .pdf file. I discovered that ALL the files that have "handled by: plugin" the edit option is grey'd (ghosted) out. I have noticed that menu "Help/About Plug-ins" lists all the installed plugins, but provide no controls for them. Is there a way to remove and reinstall a plugin and would that restore it back to the default prompt asking to open or save? I am also wondering if because .pdf files are not know to be executable that the security check isn't even looking at them?

    Thanks again.

    Hi leericmarvin,

In a word, yes. With Netscape closed, open Windows Explorer and browser to:
    File name: C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\COMMUNICATOR\PROGRAM\plugins

    Remove the file: nppdf32.dll
This is the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin, used for PDF files.

Open Netscape, then open a PDF file, and you will once again get the Warning .... window, with the option to always ask before opening this file type.
