Have done a complete restore on a Compaq presario 5000 with ME. when we try to install the canoscan D660U it can't locate the drivers. I have the software disc for this scanner plus a driver update disc, but running them accomplishes nothing. when I try to install the software it merely says the required Twain driver is not installed. I found what I thought I needed online, downloaded it and then tried to direct the computer to where it was.....still says it can't find the correct driver. We are about ready to pull hair. Can someone direct me to this Twain driver download and instruct me "how" to get it installed on the computer?
    thanks as always

    Hi,
The trouble with Twain drivers is that are not "real" hardware drivers. When they won't work MS says to go to the manufacturer, the manufacturer doesn't have the answer because it may be the OS, which is supposed to have the basic twain drivers already. Round and round.

    Best information is probably here:
http://www.twain.org/, but they direct you back to the manufacturer.

You may need to go into Safe Mode and check in Device Manager for any drivers that may be related to the scanning system. Also check Add/Remove Programs for any old software or utilities.

There are digital cameras mentioned at the Twain site. You may need to completely remove anything regarding those as well.

In Safe Mode you will probably find that Device Manager has hardware listed that you no longer have installed. You need to remove these. BTW, check the Printers folder as well.

When you reboot, follow the Cannon installation instructions carefully.

Post back if these still don't work. You can force Windows to install the drivers.

    Matt
    Edit:
You solved it? Congratulations. Any particular way?
