Missing Start Button and hella lot of things

    My laptop running on windows XP has lost its start button and start menu. Also the close program task thingy wont come up when u ctrlaltdel...

    its really mucked up and i've been advised for a system restore. i'm going to try run hijack this on it..

    anyone got any ideas whats the problem?

    Adaware

    I've attempted to run adaware on it but it says that:

    "this application has failed to start because the application application is incorrect. reinstalling this application may fix this problem. "

    what to do?

    First of all download and run the latest version of HijackThis through Quicklinks in my sig - v1.99. Save it to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\hijackThis, run another scan and post it here.

    Uninstall AdAware - download the latest version through Quicklinks, update it immediately and run it.

    No - when one of our experts on HJT logs looks at that the first thing he will post is scan again with v1.99. I am trying to speed up the response time for you.
