I have an Gateway Windows 98 computer and it got a virus on it. I tried to put Lindows onto it because I was getting so sick of the virus. The installation failed. Later, I found a Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition iso. I burned it to a disk. I put it into my Windows 98 and restarted it. It said: Press any key to boot to CD or something. I pressed that. Then it said it was checking something else for a couple of seconds. After that it said: Inf file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, Status 25600. Then I have to start my computer up again. If I start it without a CD, it will say: Missing Operating System.

What should I do about the txtsetup.sif file? Is there anyway I can edit it and burn the cd again to make it not corrupt or missing?

    Any help would be wonderful!

You won't be able to ask questions about the Windows XP Home problem here unless you hold a legitimate license for it (I am wondering why it is an .iso file).

You may find that the only way to install Win XP on that machine is to use a Gateway "recovery" disk.

You can ask all you like about the virus problem or Win 98.

If all else fails, try sending an email to Gateway support, outlining the virus problem. They should(?) help, if they are interested in trying to get your future business.

Yep, that error is normal for a burned copy.
