Missing LPT and other component

I had configured a computer for a charity I help out. Yesterday they advised me they were having trouble printing. When I checked the machine it was missing its ports. It was also missing several other drivers. I am not sure what was done to the machine. I tried running find new hardware but it did not find the ports. Can someone please step by step me how to restore the ports.

- what ports, exactly, have gone missing?
- in device manager, are they shown as bad or just not showing up at all?
- missing what other drivers?
- anything exciting in your event logs? Something this drastic should have left errors or warnings there.
- internet connected? If so, what AV is running?
- feel free to include any other detail you think might help.
