    Possibly this url will help http://aumha.org/kbcomm.htm
    Scroll down the page to "Help and Support" and there you will find a fix entitled "Repair Windows XP Help ".

    Please let us know here on the board if it works.

    It appears to me that the indices in H&S in XP are .hhk files written in xml format. If restoring the .htc file-type, as shown in Arie's link, doesn't work, you may want to follow the same procedure for .hhk file-types.

    Search to see if the .hhk files are present.

    hi guys the .htc is in the registry the .hkk was'nt i created the .hkk in the root section. but when i try to create it in local machine classes its telling me it already exist but i dont see it. i also did a search for .hkk files and came up with these merged.hhk,scoped_2.hhk etc etc . when i click on index then right click the little red x then properties it says unknown protcol- type htlm document- connection not encrypted url adress -hcp://system/panels/subpanels/Index.htm. then if i go to where that index. htm file is. click on it, help and support opens, then i click on index and i get the message this page cannot be displayed check the address. so what is that hcp address. it almost seems like it cant connect. thanks for your help

    P spino;

    I am sorry I missed your posting. I was just browsing the postings under XP and saw this one. I had the same problem. I have problems every time I attempt to update. Not only with Internet Explorer, but Windows XP Home as well. I finally just gave updating up. I just run my firewalls and hope for the best. It sounds as if you are having similar problems.
