HI, i have a problem. i tried to re-install new windows and it showed me that some of the files are not being able to copy, then it showed me that NTLDR - is missing, i copy it from CD, and now it showing "windows could not start because the following fule is missing or corrupt:
    <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

the problem is that it doesn't let me do anything , as soon as i press any button its just restarting computer and it goes to the same msg., i looked in the boot if i have to put
CD-ROM so it would start booting from it , but it's already there on the first place.... what should i do ?

timo - Welcome to the Board :)

Please fill in a few more details ....
How? Did you boot from the installation CD and make a clean install with format or did you make a Repair install.

Either of the above require a full retail copy of the XP CD - what do you have ? A full retail CD or a Recovery CD?

Are you trying to reinstall from the same CD that was originally installed on your computer?

Is your XP CD perfectly legal or is it a copy?
Have you checked that the CD is not damaged, or dirty?
Please confirm - when you place the CD in the drive, power down the computer and reboot the computer does not boot from the CD.

Insert the new Student edition CD into the drive and reboot. The computer should boot from the CD - delete the partition you made before and start over. These notes may help ....
