I'm have boot problems with GoBack and after wading thru the knowledge base, I have decided to remove it TOTALLY and re-install it.

Part of that removal, according to the KB at Symantec involves removing any reference to it on the boot track. This requires a program called Gb_Prog.exe which is supposed to reside in the GoBack directory. It ain't there. The other source of this program is on the Norton SystemSuite CD. That's nice to know but not for me since I installed it from a GOBACK downloaded package.

Does anyone know how I can get that Gb_prog file or if someone can email it to me at tenbob@optonline.net. Symantec has, for me, attained the dubious distinction of a company I would not buy anything from based on my several experiences with their support methods. This is not the first problem. Unfortunately, when I buy something good, Symantec buys the company.

Check your mail Bob. It came directly from the GoBack CD ver. 3 If you need ver. 2 instead, I have that too.

EDIT: This runs in dos only so you'll need a boot floppy.

BTW, if your ISP is blocking executable files I may have to zip it and resend. Let me know if it's not there within a couple minutes.

I've had that happen before and neither the sender or intended receiver are notified of the bounce. :(

If you can boot into Windows, you can just run the GoBack uninstaller from Window's Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. That's the manufacturer recommended way to uninstall GoBack. When it doesn't work, or you can't boot into Windows, that's when they advise the alternatives. Are you sure that file isn't in C:\Program Files\Roxio\GoBack? It might be a hidden file. If so, from a My Computer window, open Tools, Folder Options and click "Show Hidden and OS Files." That file should be in there.

Eck, I think the problem may well be that tenbob does not have the full version so the file he needs to uninstall with is not available. He indicated that he downloaded the software and does not have the CD.

I know that GoBack commonly comes bundled with some other Norton utilities and is a lite version. I'm not sure what lite means in this context but apparently it lacks the means to uninstall fully.

Generally on that version, the Gb_Prog.exe file is actually embedded in the setup.exe file for GoBack. It can be extracted using Winzip, et al.

I E-mailed him the file from my GoBack directory that is included with the Roxio version that I have. I hope it's the proper version for his situation.

Roxio no longer owns the rights to GoBack so there may have been changes that affect this file.

There is a download link for the file on the following link:

How to extract Gb_Prog.exe from the setup.exe file for GoBack.
