    re missing file

Thanks for answering Mark. I went to the link you suggested, downloaded and installed the viewer. Then I went back to the exe. file on my mail server, but it still won't open, I get the same message re the missing DLL. As I don't know what a DLL file is, I am again stumped.:( :(

You can download that file from this page. However, since I don't have Power Point installed, I have no idea where it is supposed to go.

Thanks Miz. I have downloaded the mso97.dll but as is always my problem, it asks me which program to use to open the file, and I DON'T KNOW. I've tried a few but no luck so far.

Do you have MS Office installed on your computer?
Since you installed a viewer, attached file should be opened by a viewer, and you shouldn't be getting any error about "mso97.dll ".
"mso97.dll" is MS Office 97 file, so if you are still getting an error, it looks like you have Office on your system, and it tries to open that attachment.

That dll file isn't one you have to open. It's one you have to put into the correct folder...the place where whatever is trying to open the attachment is looking for it.

The problem is that I don't have mso95 on my computer so I don't know where the correct location is.

If at this point, you have mso97.dll in the C:\Windows\System folder, and it is still not found, open a dos window and do these commands.
    cd\windows\system press enter
    regsvr32 mso97.dll press enter

Hi Mark. Followed your hint re putting the dll in that other place. It seems to have done the trick, thank you. NOW when I try to open the link for PP exe, I get the message " cannot find PPlntl.dll not found. Please run PowerPoint set up" Which I can't do cause I can't open the file! GRRR.   I could probably get the cd from my relative, but would like to know if I can figure this out without resorting to that. Whatca think? Thank you so much for your help. [althought it's not requesting the other dll anymore, I do not have Microsoft Office on my comp. Is that the problem?

Since you don't have Powerpoint, go to the link that Markp62 gave you and download it..

I just wonder, how come your Windows call for an Office file, since you don't have Office on your system. Ever had?

Hang about, what are we doing here?

Going back to the frst post and reading all of egglady's posts do we have just Powerpoint.exe sent as an attachment to an email? If so end of thread. Even if not a breach of copyright it will never work on its own without being installed with its associated reg entries and libraries.

    Egglady,

To save us all going round in circles on this please post the complete file name file.

If it is Powerpnt.exe, that is the PowerPoint executable and, as gammaepsilon so rightly points out is only part of the program and will not run as a standalone. You would need to install PowerPoint from the Office CD.

If it is something.ppt, that is a PowerPoint show which either requires PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer to be installed.
