When ever I log on I get in the center of my screen a small square box with the following words written in it _App Name Missing File. I have tried to restore my computer to an earlier but this was unsuccessful as it said unable to restore to this time due to missing file. I have inquired with quite a few other people and no one has heard of this at all. It has been on my computer for about 6 weeks now and does not appear at this stage to cause any problems but I have heard that something like a missing file can cause your computer to crash at some time.
I am using XPHome edition service pack 3

I am re posting this under Windows after the suggestion of Broni as at first it was though to be a malaware problem but after numerous attempts by Broni to fix the problem he has been unable to do so and says it is not a Malaware problem. Since dealing with Broni I have not downloaded any new programs as per his instructions.

Any further help would be appreciated

    Hi Nick,

It's probably just a failed (un)install of software and nothing too serious (broni knows his stuff :)).

To try and identify what's causing the error could you download Windows Defender from Microsoft here and then follow instructions here to identify startup programs. Let us know if you see any software that you have tried and failed to install or remove.

Hi there wildfire I apologise for not getting back to you sooner but my computer went belly up got a tec in and he fixed it right away trouble was the time getting him here. I have not had a chance to deal with the info you sent me but the tec did his stuff and also removed that annoying box in the center of my screen on start up he has also got rid of a few start up programs that he says I do not need. I will still go through the info you sent me but as far as the original problem it is fixed. Thanks to both Broni and yourself. If I get any problems when I am going through your info I will let you know
