For no apparent reason, all of our email accounts disappeared from Netscape after the computer was shut down and restarted. With the help of past threads on this Board, I was able to reestablish two of them along with all folders and emails; however, when attempting to establish the remaining two accounts, NS says that Mail accounts having the same user name already exist, and won't let me proceed to establish the remaining user settings. I know that these accounts are out there, along with the associated folders and emails, as they have been verified in the associated POP account files. It's just that I can't get them to appear. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forum, Ejryan!

    Ed,

I have everything laid out here: Lost Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings

Look over the page, and follow the guidelines. If you continue to have problems let us know.

    Ramona,

I was able to follow that write-up for the two mail accounts that NS let me establish, with user names identical to the ones I had lost. Was not able to finish the job when it prohibited me from reestablishing the remaining mail accounts due to identical existing user names.

Does this mean that I need to create a new profile as outlined in one of the links? If so, will I have to create new Mail Accounts to replace the ones that I have working now plus the ones that are still missing?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ed.

    Ed,

Are the two remaining accounts you are trying to create listed in the Account List in the left panel of your Mail?

Look in your Mail Account folder, and check to see how many listings you have there for these last two accounts.

What may be happening is that you have created these two accounts more than once. The ones which have no Mail in them should be deleted (with Netscape closed). Leave only the folders with the Mail. Then try to create the accounts again.

    Ramona,

Your message to go the the Mail folder to see what accounts have been set up was right on target. I had inadvertantly set up additional folders/accounts using an "incoming.isp.net" server instead of the "mail.isp.net" server that I had used previously. Once I got rid of the "incoming" related accounts, and reestablished the accounts using the "mail" notation for the server, the accounts all appeared with the appropriate files, etc.

Thanks for your help, and the other infomation and tips that are here on this Board.

The NS 7.02 version is still a lot slower than my 6.0 version was, but that will have to wait for another day. Thanks again.

    Ed.

    Ed,

Glad that you were able to create the last two mail accounts! When you see that the Mail is completely stable, you really need to think seriously about updating your browser. Netscape 7.02 is obsolete, has security vulnerabilities, and bugs.

Do some reading about Firefox and Thunderbird here: Firefox - Rediscover the Web. This is a standalone browser.

Thunderbird - Reclaim Your Inbox This is a standalone Mail client.

There is also Mozilla 1.7.8 which is a suite, including Mail & Newsgroups:
    Downloads, and additional information
