    Operating system
    Windows 95 4.00.950 B

    CPU & RAM
    Pentium Pro (around 400 mhz)
    160 MB RAM

    CD Rewriter/ DVD
    LG GCC-4480B

    Problem
The CD rewriter/DVD doesn’t play DVD’s. The following message occurs when I run the Cyber link Power DVD System Diagnostic
“Your CD/DVD driver does not support DMA mode.
Please update your CD/DVD driver firstâ€.

    Question:
Is it possible for me to get the CD/DVD to play DVD’s on my computer, as it is set up now? If so, how, if not, what do I have to do to get it to work?

    Check list of facts:
*The CD/DVD is installed as the secondary master on my system.
*It does not play DVD’s I have tried, no picture or sound
*The CD/DVD when connected automatically sets up it’s own
drivers. There are no discs with drivers that come with it
*I have checked the internet site of the manufacturer, and have
been unable to find any other drivers for windows 95.
*It does allow me to burn and play CD’s

You need to enable DMA first.
Go into Device Manager, expand the CDROM section. For each drive double click the entry, then in the new window, click on Settings, put a check in the box for DMA.
Then expand the Disk Drives section, doubleclick the IDE drive, then Settings, put a check for DMA there.
Then expand the Hard Disk Controllers, then double click the BUS Master entry, click on Settings, change to Both IDE channels enabled.
You must reboot after these changes. When windows is up and running, check to see if the DMA checks are still there.

Thanks for that Mark, the key was setting the hard disk controller to a dual setting so that the secondary IDE setting was enabled. This then allowed me to select DMA on my CD, (which had not been an available option previously. Now it's just a matter of trying out a DVD to see if it works.

    :)

All is not well, I have tried a DVD (zone 4, I live in NZ) but it just came up with a error message

"a disc with unsupported format in drive E "

I know that it is not zone locked yet because I have checked using the nero toolkit. Also I have never played a DVD in the drive.

So I have posted another thread in the hardware section, as I figure it probably has something to do with the actual DVD. Or perhaps something to do with my DVD player which is cyberlink power DVD.

    Thanks anyway
