Missing Addresses in Netscape 7

Why are my addresses disappearing in netscape 7.0? It's not all of them. Seems its MOST of them. I set up email groups and all - they are completely missing. In fact, netscape seems to save addresses I know I haven't collected. It seems I have PAB files all over the place. Is there someway to collect and merge addressess from old netscapes, old IE etc and stuff into one working file? How about collecting all the old emails as well? I need to collect everything so I can do a major system cleaning and have only one version Netscape and One IE. Thanks!

How many versions of Netscape do your have on your system? How many Profiles?

You have some options here, in order to organize your Netscape files.

1. Uninstall everything and begin again with a new Profile. I have some guidelines that will walk you through step by step.

OR

2. Copy all pertinent Profile information to the preferred Profile.

On your disappearing Address Book:
With Netscape closed
Backup your Profiles Folder

Browse to your abook.mab file
Right click and select Properties
If "Read Only" is selected, deselect (remove tick)

Your Address Book may be corrupt, and to check the file for errors:

Open Netscape and Address Book
Select Tools | Export in .LDIF format

Open the .LDIF file in Notepad and look for obvious signs of corruption, such as long lines, blank spaces or binary garbage. Fix them, then FILE|SAVE.

Open Netscape and "Import" the repaired abook.mab file.

You can remove the .pab files, as these are leftover from the conversion of the Communicator Profile to the Netscape 7 Profile. Don't delete them just tuck them away in a backup folder on your HD.
