New thread - Misplaced User profile ?

After PC freezes and hangs I discovered "malicious spyware" . PC Tools SpyDoctor found them but freezes seemed to prevent removal. I found another Spyware programme which was successful in the removal and alsofollowed its recommendations to use REG-CURE too - and then ran into problems, and it appears that my system could not find my User Profile so I had to log in as Default User - where I can't access my software including all of Outlook 2003 which means my Word and Excel files ,my e-mails,my Pictures etc.

After various attempts via this forum, restore operations, an hour or two on the 'phone to my PC maker, and other
brain-storms ,I have been looking at Hidden Files on my C Drive.
    I see that I have 'C:\Documents and Settings(2)' which
contains a tiny bit of my stuff, and I also have 'C:\Documents and Settings(3) ' which contains a different tiny selection of my stuff. Looking further I also have 'C:\Windows.old|Documents and Settings' which is dated last November containing (?) a snapshot of what they were at that time - which would be somewhere near what I want.
But I also have 'C:\Users\(my name)\etc.etc' which includes folders for Start menu and My Documents - which has some very recent files - looks as though this was what was in use before the probem started..

My ideas - based on what seems logical to me ( but which may be quite wrong and even dangerous) are to move the the two numbered 'Documents and Settings' folders somewhere else - maybe put them in a folder labelled 'Moved folders' and create a new one in their place, then copy the relevant sub-folders from ''C:\Windows.old' into that . But what
about the stuff in 'Users' ? Do I move/copy that too ? Or perhaps do it a step at a time to see what I can do after each operation ?

I will appreciate advice about this !
