    Hello all, I'M running I'm running Win98SE, Athlon 1700XP, 256 Megs of ram.
    The other day I installed an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card so that I could hook up my scanner. Everything went as it was supposed to and the scanner works fine. The problem is when I shutdown the computer, it goes through the process and shuts off but it starts up again as if to restart. the button is checked that says shutdown the computer, I ran system file checker and everything was ok. I can live with this problem but it would be nice to fix it. Does anyone here have any idea's as to what I can try. Thanks, Digger

    Perhaps one of these:

    Shutdown causes/fixes Tshooter:
    http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/q238/0/96.asp&NoWebContent=1

    Shutdown Supplement [or update/patch]:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/win98se/default.asp

    Disable if enabled or enable if disabled "Fastshutdown ":

    Startbutton>run>type msconfig>general tab>advanced button>[un]check disable fast shutdown

    =======
    These are the common, quickie, general known problems/fixes. Try these and if the problem is still not resolved a closer look at the less common or OS specific can be taken, things such as scanner [model/make] specific or aspi layer complications.

    Problem solved

    Hi,
    The suggestions didn't work, they are always worth a try, thanks. My scanner program put a couple of lines in the autoexec.bat file when I deleted those lines the computer will shutdown properly now and the scanner program still works. The scanner is old it was built when Win95 was out I guess it needed to put those lines for 95.
    Thanks again,
    Digger

    Hi Digger,

    I'm glad you found the fix and all is well. Thanks for the update.

    I would also point out that one of the sublinks [2nd] in the ms tshoot link is:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;202633

    And the second suggesting following advice for updated drivers/software for your device is:

    Determine if the shutdown problem is caused by a command or a driver that loads automatically from the Win.ini, System.ini, Autoexec.bat, or Config.sys file, or whether a program in the Startup folder conflicts with the startup process. To do this perform clean boot troubleshooting.

    ========
    Partly my fault for not giving the link, I usually do, which is the "15 Step Cleanboot" routine. I should have known that people do not like reading/sifting through MS pages. I'm sorry for offering the longest route. Granted it would have gotten you there but via the scenic route.

    Hence my signature, justly coined, I manage to get it done eventually. The problem is, while, I know so many different ways of getting it done, I, often times, lack the judgment in deciding which is the best or quickest way. All I can claim is, "it is My Way ". :D
