Minimize apps to system tray

Does anyone know how to make applications minimize into the system tray? For example, I would like outlook to minimize into the system tray and not the taskbar. I have found numerous shareware programs that will do this, but I would like to do it with installing any additional software. Maybe a change in the registry??
