    Hello there guys!

How do I import Netscape mail into Windows Mail in Vista? It's that I want to migrate all my Netscape Messenger data into Windows Mail (all accounts and stuff), but from WM I can only get to import from itself or from Outlook. I've heard there are applications which can do this transfer. If there are, do you know the names? Does Windows Mail, or anything in Vista do this importing? Your help is greatly appreciated, thanx. :)

I don't have an answer, as I don't have Vista, but it may help to tell us which version Netscape you have. Windows Mail in Vista is the equivalent of Outlook Express (OE) of WinXP, and earlier OS. It was not possible to "import" settings from NS6/7 to OE. One had to go through an intermediate step of getting mail into NS4.x, and importing it into OE.
    Try this link .

Thank you very much Westside. I followed your link, but I'm afraid to say didn't help much. The version of Netscape I have here is 4.8. I opened Windows Mail > File > Import > Messages, but no option for Netscape is available. All I got was MS Exchange, Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Mail 7. Any more tips?
    Thanx again for your time.:)

I never used Outlook Express, more than to compare its settings with NS or other mail clients. OE is the perfect intermediary, since it can import mail from Netscape Messenger. However, if you did not have such capability before going to Vista, I would not know.
If you have access to an earlier OS, you may be able to import your NS mail into OE, and from there into Windows Mail. Can you install OE in Vista? If so, it would be an extra step.
To me Vista is, right now another world. It will be more user friendly, but for now, I am sticking to WinXP.
    Check this thread .
As you can see, you are not the only one with questions about Windows Mail.

Yeah, this is it West. I think the right way to do it is importing from NS into OE, and then into WM. But to be honest, there are so many issues concerning Windows Mail yet, that I am thinking of giving it up for a while. I've got my good ol' XP running in another drive, just in case. :)

    Thank you once more.

I am with you about Vista. I, just, purchased a 2-yr service contract on my old computer with XP. So, if it breaks, they will fix it. May be two yrs from now, I will have to get a new computer with a manageable Vista.

You did what you thought was the best for you, and that's what it's all about. I just like the way WM looks, along with all the Vista parafernalia. But, as you said, things need to settle down a little.

I tried importing with Oulook express 2007, from the Office 2007 packet, but it didn't work. It imports from many different clients, but not from Netscape. I installed Outlook 2003, but there must be some conflict going on because of so many install/uninstall, and it didn't open. Micro$oft!

Before I quit for good, I have another question though: all the received mail in Windows Mail go into the Inbox folder, and, no matter how many mail accounts you have (I have six), they all get together with no division. Do you know how we separate them, as a matter of organization, and to know who comes from which account? When you choose compose, there's a slide from which you choose which one to send from, but what about the receiving?

    Thank you.

I read in one of the links I gave you that, unlike OE, Windows Mail does not support multiple accounts. Is this true, I don't know. May be it is no different than Mozilla Thunderbird, which on setting up the accounts, there is a sneaky box which checked by default, i.e. Global Settings. If that box is checked mail from all accounts will go in a single Inbox, Sent, etc.
I shudder at the thought of having to fish out the mail from my 12 accounts into single folders. check this article

There is a way around it though. Open Windows Mail, go to Tools > Message Rules > Mail. From there, you can set up the rules for each of your accounts like: "Where the message is from the specified account ", and "Move it to the specified folder ". I created subfoloders inside Inbox/Sent Items with the names of the accounts I was pointing the messages to. You can tell the program about the Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts, etc. I did it here and it's working like a charm. Try it.

    Take care! :)
