MIE page load time

I have win98, with a 56k modem. Just wondering why for a long time my pages load and the bar at the bottom showing percent of load is filling up and then it gets to what looks like complete and it will delay for about 20 seconds before the page is displayed. Does MacAfee anit virus cause this? Sometimes it will appear like everythingis frozen up, but if I wait another 20 seconds or so the page will load. Thanks a lot.
