This e-card fails to have any sound in Firefox1.0.7, and 1.5, and Kmeleon0.9. for some reason AOL Media Player comes up asking Zone alarm if I permit it. If I say yes, it will play in NS7.2 and Mozilla1.7.12. It plays fine in IE6 and Opera8.51. There is no sound in Firefox, although they have the same .dll files as the other programs. Unless, I deselect the plugin of MID files, which is, apparently default with winamp. Then, the Media Connectivity Player extention will open Winamp. I can see that I will need to make a different selection for my Windows File types, but I don't understand why Firefox does not talk with the AOL Media Player.
I changed the File Types to Quicktime, and I found out that the change action is grayed out in 1.0.7, while it was not in 1.5. I had three identical entries for Crescendo. I changed action to Quicktime, and, sure enough AOL Media Player up. I had the AOL Media Player for music and videos at Netscape.com, and can't even find files anywhere.
I can see why people go crazy with MID files.
Where is Crescendo when I need it?

    Westside ...

With FF 1.5, the music on your ecard plays just fine with the Crescendo 5.1 plugin, even though the MID and MIDI filetypes are set for Windows Media Player. One caveat, though ... I haven't rebooted since installing it, so don't know if I'll get the same results after I do.

If you need the plugin, you can download it here.

Edit: After rebooting, everything remains the same ... the Crescendo plugin plays the nice mariachi music on your ecard (congratulations, BTW), and the MID and MIDI filetypes are still associated with WMP.

Thanks, but it is not helping. I have the plugin .dll files. And, in 1.5, at least, Action is listed to open with Live Update Crescendo. Who knows, I may have to reinstall Crescendo.
I could care less for the atrocious canned music which comes with such files, but other people seem to care. I happened to have had one as sample.

You need more than just the .dll files ... the .class files are required, as well. This is what Crescendo installed to my plugins folder:
    CresObserver.class
    CresPlayer.class
    crestest.htm
    crestest.mid
    NPMIDI32.DLL
    NPMP332.DLL
I tried removing the crestest.htm and crestest.mid files, but when I played your ecard, they were recreated.

Sounds as though you may need to reinstall Crescendo.

    Jim,
your link is for the universal crescendo, while I had used the more specific files. all files which you listed are present in my plugins, except for npmp332.dll.
The only path for installation is that for Communicator, which I don't have, but I tried to change the path as needed, and I saw no difference, and still no npmp332.dll file.
But, when I did a search, I found out that there were two versions of the file in the large "C51unimx" folder produced by the unzipping of the downloaded file, along with the c51unimx.exe installation file. There were two folders in the c51unimx folder, one labelled Win95, and the other Winnt. I copied the npmp332.dll file from that folder, and pasted into the 1.5 plugins folder, and sure enough the AOL Media.exe file comes on, in the status bar, and the mariachi band plays. Not straightforward, but itworks.
Just to complete the edification of all, I have WMP are default for MIDI and MID files. In FF1.5 download options|View and Edit actions, the two extentions are shown as Real Player files (they were till a few days ago, but the word has not gotten to 1.5). And, the file should open with Live Update Crescendo. But the the status bar mentions AOL Media .exe, which come up with Zone Alarm. Clear as mud, eh?

    Ramona,
as I mentioned before, I don't care for .mid files, but I brought up the apparent inconsistencies. I think I understand the situation, and the Media Player Connectivity extention has quite a bit to do with it. It is a nice extention, in some case when I don't want to leave the browser on just to play an embedded file, but with my limited experience with .mid or MIDi, or however you have them, there is some problem. As soon as I selected .mp3 files to be handled by the extention, the AOl thing came up. Why? Because it is connected with Winamp (or viceversa). I will have to read what you describe, because it is not clear to me how it works.
