I Have two SCSI Microtek Scanners. With the E-3 Installed (alone) my Windows ME finds it and properly installs all drivers and in My Computer, the Properties indicates a Microtek E-3 is installed. Scanner Operation is normal in all aspects. With the E-6 installed (alone) my Windows ME finds it and installs all Drivers and in My Computer, the Properties indicates a Microtek V600 instead of the correct E-6. Scanner Operation is normal in all aspects. When - Install New Hardware - by way of Manual selection. all Drivers are again loaded and the Properties again indicates a Microtek V600. Tried several different approaches, removing drivers & reinstalling using correct floppy with updated drivers, and no change. All my efforts show that the system wants an installation of a V600, even though the operation of the scanner is perfectly normal. (By the way the Microtek V600 is a parallel port Scanner.) Any ideas or suggestions?

    Bump up

I’ll try this one again and hopefully clear up the apparent confusion. I know when a piece of equipment is added to the PC, Drivers are requested to be loaded for proper operation of the new equipment. If there is an anomaly of some sort, the Device Manager, System Properties will indicate this. I have two Scanners, and both are SCSI types. When they are installed they work normally. In the Device Manager, System Properties, it displays the following: For the E-3 Scanner it shows "Microtek Scannerâ€â€”“Scanmaker E-3â€â€¦..For the E-6 Scanner it shows "Microtek Scannerâ€-- "Scanmaker 600â€. Both scanners operate in a normal fashion. There are NO errors indicated in the Device Manager. I also know that the Scanmaker 600 is a Parallel Port Scanner, and mine definitely is a SCSI E-6, connected to an Adaptec SCSI Host Adapter.

Is your only problem that the Microtek E-6 Scanner is being misreported as a V600 in system information / device manager? It works normally?

If that's the case, I would leave well enough alone

    my 2 cents ;)

Here’s a follow-up on the weird Microtek scanner query. I removed all drivers manually for the SCSI Card and the Scanner. Also removed all applicable ASPI files from the System Folder. Did a reinstall of the SCSI card per Microtek Installation Instructions, with the proper IRQ. Then per Installation Instructions installed the E-6 Scanner via Add New Hardware, selecting Microtek Scanner, Scanmaker E-6. Lastly installed all Software per Instructions. Installed updated ASPI files per Microtek FTP site. Rebooted the System and checked in Device Manager, System Properties for any discrepancies, and found the Following: "Microtek Scanner" "¦.â€Scanmaker E-6" which is now correct. But since I do have an Intel PC Camera Installed and its listed in the Device Manager System Properties under "Imaging Device" it shows "Intel PC Camera Pro" and "Scanner 600â€. Why I don’t know and I think I don’t care, since the scanner operates normally. Under System Properties "Microtek Scanner" does indicate correctly that a "Scanmaker E-6" is installed.
    So end of problem(?).
Thanks all, must have been something corrupted in the drivers.
