If you are using Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8, 9 or 10 as your main web browser, Microsoft will let you know that you should really switch over to IE 11. The company has revealed it will be sending notifications to those users on Tuesday, January 12 to upgrade to IE 11.

The notifications are part of Microsoft's plans to end support for IE 8, 9 and 10 for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 on January 12. If you are still using Vista, IE 9 will continue to be supported until official support for Vista itself ends in mid-2017. Business and enterprise users who really want to keep using the older browsers can get rid of the notifications to upgrade via a registry change which you can find in this Microsoft Support article.

What a POS. I upgraded to IE-11 on my Win 8.1 laptop when I first got it. I logged into what I thought was a demo of how Win 10 would look. It barged in, deleted 8.1 and installed itself without my permission. It also appeared to have killed off IE-11, leaving only Edge as its browser.

I took an instant dislike to Edge, and went back to my #2 browser, Google Chrome. For a few years, I'd used IE for my family browser and Chrome for commercial use.. When searching for another program on my computer a few days ago, I found one called "IE11-old ".

When I have time to mess with it, I'm considering getting rid of "Edge" and restoring IE-11. I have two e-mail accounts and had kept one open on IE and the other one on Chrome, which made switching between them very simple.

Get rid of the unsecure. If you want to keep using IE, upgrade to the latest. This has nothing to do with Windows 7, 8 or 10.
