I haven't tried downloading but a quick googling gave Java Virtual Machine Download Links.

To reinstall XP, boot from the install-CD, do not choose "repair installation" but "fresh installation ".

    1) If you reinstall the exact same version of XP, do a full format to NTFS of C: (the boot/system partition). When done the installation will commence.

    2) If you reinstall a different version of XP, delete the current C: (the boot/system partition) and reboot the computer. When again booted from the install-CD, create a new partition C: (the boot/system partition) and do a full format to NTFS. When done, the installation will commence.

The reason for the extra step [deleting C: - rebooting - recreating C:] if a different version of XP is reinstalled, is that the installer will have detected the previous operating system and unless you reboot, the installer will remember the previous version and create a multiboot configuration which you don't want. It would also be sufficient to reboot after the full format in 1) but there is no "pause" at that time.

(If you get a multiboot configuration, it can be fixed afterwards by editing the file boot.ini but it is simpler to prevent it.)

My notes below on making a fresh install of XP with format on a drive which already has XP installed - much of the wording is taken from the blue installation screens .....

keithsince59--Once you have downloaded and installed MS Virtual Machine v3805 from the link Christer provided, you should update it to v3810.
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Virtual-Machine-Download-2090.html
There were some security issues with v3805 which v3810 fixes.
I am told the above is the way to get v3810. Just reading the link I have provided, it would seem you can get v3810 directly from it, but others have told me you have to have v3805 first.
I guess there is no harm in trying to install v3810 directly. If it does not work, you can always uninstall and get v3805 first.
