I don't know if Microsoft has actually implemented this change yet. I'm going to be upgrading to a Ryzen CPU and I'd like to stay on Windows 7 until extended support ends. The motherboard manufacturers for the socket AM4 platform, have Windows 7 drivers available so this is just Microsoft's stupid policy on forcing users to move to Windows 10.

I get not offering optimizations and patches for Ryzen CPU's on Windows 7, but going out of Microsoft's way just to block updates on Windows 7 when using those CPU's on Windows 7 works fine, is shameful.

I'm sure there will be a way to check for and install updates on Windows 7 with a Ryzen or Kaby Lake CPU despite Microsoft's efforts to block this functionality.
