I am not at all sure as to what will happen on September 19, 2012. An E-mail from Microsoft, (we all know Microsoft never contacts users by E-mail) informs that on 19 September 2012 installed Windows 7 will be upgraded on ones computer. Has anyone received the mentioned E-mail, (I did but deleted E-mail). If this threat is correct, (in the past, a person did manage to invade my computer without knowing) what steps should be taken for safety, other than stay off the Web on mentioned date.

Doubtful that that day will be any different from any other day. All standard safety measures should remain in place;)

Hi BobbyScot. Microsoft never just sends you random e-mails about security updates. If you didn't sign up for anything on Microsoft's website then I would ignore the e-mail message and delete it. Microsoft will never e-mail you asking you to perform a task on your Windows PC. Its most likely a spammy e-mail that is claiming to be from Microsoft.

Keep your antivirus software up to date, make sure all Windows Updates are installed, and keep all your 3rd party software up to date with the latest versions.

Thanks for both your assurance and suggestions. Other than various Microsoft titles, only Windows Live Mail has my E-mail address. As a precaution, I hope other members read this Topic.

Yeah, I figured nothing would happen since the e-mail was fake.

Since this issue is now resolved, please mark this thread as 'Resolved'.
