Have just installed the full corporate version as I write on my second machine... PC booting up. Oh look a new "protect" screen. Now some tweaking... Big red highlight when you turn off automatic updates.

Hmmm, still waiting for the icons to show. Wallpaper's there, but...
    5mins later, waiting, waiting...

OK, time for a forced reboot...

2 reboots later, the icons appear! :(

Looks good so far. In about Windows in a folder, it says Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service Pack 2)

Hope this is the correct version? Thought it was supposed to be 2180???
    It's from the Microsoft site.

I have the Automatic Updates set to "Notify, but don't download automatically. "

Go to the Control Panel > Security Center > Automatic Updates (at the bottom). Choose your option.

This is the correct version. There is no "2180" or any buiild number in the final version.

I downloaded it and my computer would not reboot. It stayed on the Windows is shutting down screen for 15 mins. I had to shut down manually. When the computer booted up I got the Windows name on the Slpash screen but it didn't have the Professional title underneath it. I performed a System Restore and everything is back to normal. Is there a way to download the new service pack without having the reboot issue, also, the Security Center screen did not detect my Norton AntiVirus or am I missing something.

    lj50,

The splash screen no longer has the Home or Pro designation. Also, the graphical image had blue bars rather than the old green.

I slipstreamed and fresh installed. Everything is running normally here, and Security detects the latest McAfee and ZoneAlarm products. I'm sure it'll detect Norton. Norton probably just needs to patch itself to integrate with Security Center. Until they do, you can just tell Security Center not to monitor for Virus Scanners.

I would try rebooting several times. XP is a pretty advanced NTFS thingy, but it still uses the Windows Registry. Sometimes Windows needs a few reboots until it absorbs all the changes.

If it installed successfully, it should eventually boot and shutdown correctly. If a few reboots don't work, try another SP2 install. If you did it over your existing installation, perhaps everything just didn't take correctly. Give it another whirl. It should work. They've tested the thing long enough! My clean install works fine.

Yep, that's what Symentec told me, that they would patch it so that the security center recognises it...

Just got notification about an Symantec update (LiveUpdate). They released the Norton WMI (Windows Monitoring Instrumentation) patch and now my NAV2004 shows up "Green" in the Windows Security Center.

Likewise, but extremely irritating that they were a day late with this - especially as the recommendation was to install before SP 2 :(

Any way installed SP 2 on 3 m/c's yesterday without a hitch and no nasty sruprises - yet :)

I've installed it twice. I tried to restart quite a number of times and it just hangs on the shut down screen and I waited a few times over 25-30mins reading that windows is shutting down. Strange isn't it?

Seems like the LiveUpdate only works with 2004 - no joy with 2003.

Downloaded again and this time everything went well, rebooted right away. Even downloaded Symantec's Security Center fix as well.

I want to download SP-2 but have a VERY slow dial-up and am wondering if I can download it to a file, so I can copy it to my laptop and download from the file and not have to download twice.
    Can anybody help?

Thanks Pete, I just figured out it would take me about 25 hours to download it and that's if my ISP didn't knock me off line (which they would) and I'd have to keep starting over.
If I could do it over a broadband connection somewhere with my laptop, getting back to my original question could I save it to a file and copy it to my desktop?
    Thanks
    Floyd

Yes - this is what you download -

    WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

but don't download it to your desktop - to a folder on the hard drive and run it from there.

This a a real concern! I'm glad I moved away from products like Symantec.
My AVG 6.0 Free virus software from Grisoft is recognised by the security centre in SP2. I would have hoped that all XP compliant NAV versions would be recognised by SP2. But then again Symantec want us to upgrade every 12 months when they bring out there "calendar" labled product!
