I use Microsoft Outlook ( Office 2007) using Word 2007 for e-mail etc. When I compose an e-mail the default is Colibri 11 point and pale blue colour. One of my correspondents (at least one) has poor sight and can't read my messages. He likes ( so do I ) Arial 12 point black.
Of course I can reset it, every time I compose a message, but that is a real bore if I do a dozen mails...
I have followed the Help instructions but the default always jumps back to the same pale blue Colibri 11 point.

Any ideas ( whilst I still have a little hair left ) ?

Tools/Options -- yes, but Preferences has several separate parts, one of which is e-mail Options ; however that only deals with handling incoming messages, or when replying, whether to include the senders message or not.
The tab Tools/Options/Mail Format/Stationery and Fonts seems the right one, and does indeed allow me to change the defult ( it appears). The problem is that it does not stay changed. As soon as I start clicking OK it goes back to the one I don't want.

I don't know if the same method works for Office 2007, but in Office XP (my desktop) and Office 2000 (my laptop) I just open a new message, change the font, style, colour. Then, without typing anything, I save the blank document as a dot file (not doc) in the Templates folder which is kindly offered up by Word. Give it any name, norma.dot for instance is easy to rename afterwards. Close your document.
    Open your Templates folder, it's in "C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates ".
Now rename the unwanted "normal.dot" file, to "old.dot" for instance, then rename your new .dot file to "normal.dot ", the default template that you want to have.
Re-open a new message in Outlook and your formatting should be more to your liking.

In Outlook 2007, using Win 7, it's even easier, as I found out just now:
Open Outlook, Options, Mail Format: Stationary and Fonts. A new window "Signatures and Stationary" pops open. Click the "Personal Stationary" tab.
You will see "Sample Text" with the calibri font default setting. Just click the "Font" button and change to your liking. Accept the changes and close. No more pale blue calibri!

That would be the one....But, before you get to that screen - there are 2 Use MS Word to edit emails....If those are selected - try unselecting them.

Thanks all ; its sorted now.
What I discovered - on my system at least - is that in Tools/Optipons/Mail Format/Signatures and Stationery... I had to go to each of the three parts ( New Mail messages , Replying or forwarding and Composing & Reading) and make the same changes in each . If I only did one or two of these, it jumped back to the old default. When I did all three , I got what I wanted.
    So, Resolved.

I would have thought that, if he wants to use Word for editing, he'd just have to change the font in Word. He certainly doesn't want a pale blue Calibri there either.

Sorry about this late reply. I didn't see your last post as I didn't refresh the window after taking the dog for a walk. It only refreshed itself after my posting.
