We are running Windows 98 and Office 2000. We have been running fine for quite some time.

Yesterday when I went to open Outlook 2000, the program starts to open, the banner comes up on the middle of the screen, and then just hangs there. The program never opens. Then when you hit a Ctrl/Alt/Delete we get an error message saying that resources are low, and then I have to restart.

I tried to right click on the icon and explore and the message I am getting says

mapi was unable to load information service PSTPRX.DLL

I would prefer not to reinstall the program, as I will loose all my emails, added contacts, etc. Is there another way to fix this glitch?

We have run ad aware and defragged already too.

    Boot to DOS. Then run
    scanreg /fix
    and when that finishes
    scanreg /opt

Boot to windows and repair MS Office.

    Newt,

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried what you said and it still just freezes when the Outlook banner comes on. Any other ideas???

I appreciate your help and also I want to apologize for the double posting, my wife sent a post from her work computer almost the same time I sent mine from home, I had no idea she was sending a post also.

Thanks again for any help you can give me!

Dang - was hoping that would work.

It's about 3:30am here so I would not trust anything substantive I posted. I'll take another look at a reasonable hour and try to offer other suggestions. I'm sure that when I'm really awake, something will occur.

Still not working... here is what we have tried:

I tried the scanreg/fix and scanreg/opt this morning and running repair on office, and the tried to startup Outlook and I got a blue screen with the following message: Fatal Exception OE has occured at 0177:BFF9DBAT the current application will be terminated, press any key. I pressed a key and got another blue screen with the same message except 177AF:00000081. I pressed any key again and the screen went black.

One other thing I thought we should mention is that the reason I noted in my message header about mapi PSTPRX.DLL - is that I got this message by right clicking on the Outlook Icon on my desktop and hitting explore. When I do this, the program attempts to open Microsoft Exchange 95 and gives me the message about MAPI was unable to load information service PSTPRX.DLL. I am not sure why it is trying to open Microsoft Exchange when I am trying to open Outlook 2000. I just want to give you as much info as I can so that I don't lead you down the wrong path.

Thanks again for your time and effort in helping to resolve this matter.

    Andy

Last part of Newt's early morning post asked you to repair Office. If you go to Add/Remove programs in the control panel and select Office 2000 Disc 1, you'll get a repair option and two others. Run the repair option and post back your results.

    Rockster,

I ran the repair option and did not get any results, I then uninstalled Office completely and re-installed and it seems to be working fine now.

I do appreciate all the help and advice!

    Thank you

Appreciate the kudo's but that was Newt's suggestion. I just tagged on a friendly reminder because his recommendations were right on. Glad you got it resolved.
