    Dear All,

Herewith my latest problem(s). Well it has been a few weeks !!

A couple of months ago I installed Microsoft Office 2000 using the following disks, in the order shown: -

    Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Standard
Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP 2)
    Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2

My OS is Windows 98 SE

I followed the instructions and everything seemed to go OK. However, when the installation was complete I couldn’t open "Accessâ€. When I tried, instead of getting the expected "Access" window I got a "plain" window with a small window inside it saying: -

“ERROR Can’t find the Database you specified or you didn’t specify a database at all. Specify a valid database name in the command line and include a path if necessaryâ€

This didn’t make sense to me and anyway I couldn’t see how to comply with the instructions. Went to MS Knowledge Base but couldn’t make any sense of the info there either. Would mention here that this was the first and only installation of Office on the system.

Tried complete uninstall/reinstall process at least twice but to no avail. Couldn’t open "Accessâ€. Kept getting the above error message.

Yesterday, after an interval of 2/3 weeks, attempted, yet again, to uninstall/reinstall.

This time, installed SR-1 and SP-2 OK, as usual, but when I tried to install Disc 2 I got the following message: -

“WINDOWS INSTALLER The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installationâ€

I went to MS KB again and found Q269232. Whilst not really understanding it, I followed its instructions to the letter. Then tried to install Disc 2 again. No good. Still got the above message.

    My questions, therefore, are: -

    (A) How do I install Disc 2?

    (B) How do I open "Access" when I’ve got Disc 2 installed?

Look forward to someone’s helpful comments. GRAHAM

Have you tried the eraser2k program? The IT guys here use it to totally wipe the system clean (of office) if there has been some problem with the install of Office before attempting it again.

After you load Office have you tried opening Access BEFORE applying the service packs?
Are you doing a typical install or custom?

    Hi Graham Newey
Was this an upgrade......or a brand spanking new install? My first thought would have been to try the repair feature? Secondly....found this.
